Leave it to Plantinga

"From Calvin’s point of view believing in the existence of God on the basis of rational argument is like believing in the existence of your spouse on the basis of the analogical argument for other minds – whimsical at best and unlikely to delight the person concerned."
- Alvin Plantinga, "Reason and Belief in God," 67-68

Nice.

There really is a bible belt.

From a recent Gallup Poll:

Food for thought. How should this affect the way we do ministry in different parts of the country? How should this affect how you live your daily life in your region? Is it still useful to talk about "American culture" in dealing with missiological strategies? I think not.

The Real Facebook TOS Problem

When I first started hearing news about the Facebook TOS issue, my first thought was "Wait a sec. I haven't been asked to accept any new agreement." I logged onto Facebook expecting something to pop up and ask me to agree to a new TOS. Nothing. Hmm. Why am I not being asked to agree to the new way in which I will interact with Facebook. Check out this little gem:
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to change or delete portions of these Terms at any time without further notice. Your continued use of the Facebook Service after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
That's right. Facebook can now change things on you at any time, and your use of the service is your acceptance of the agreement. This is the real reason to get mad about the new Facebook TOS. They can change it any time they want, they don't have to tell you, and you implicitly agree to it by logging in!

The Extravagance of Music

What amazing luxury is it that I can at any time of the day or night press a single button and with that button press command Conway Twitty to sing "Hello Darlin'" and with another press of a button make him stop or start over. And how much does this luxury cost me? $0.99
